10K Hours: Joe Yung Spike

10K Hours is a brand new series exploring the "10,000 Hours" rule of work put in toward mastery of one's craft with those who have impacted culture. In this segment, we catch up with Joe Yung Spike, director of numerous music videos from artists like Future, Akon, Trae Tha Truth, Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, Birdman and many more. He talks about losing his sister and nephew just weeks before losing his mom to a brain aneurysm.

Furthermore, he talks about getting shot in the head and being in the emergency room, meanwhile his mother was upstairs in critical condition. Joe's turning point came when he reflected on all the important people he lost, which is when he was forced to make a decision to either fold, or keep going. Additionally, Joe talks about his unique business style and how it helped him get more clients. He explains that you can be great and talented at something, but what matters is how hard you work, and that's what separates him from the rest. "All that came because I learned the skill, not because I was trying to be better than anybody - I aim to be better than myself."
